Hello Families!

In Writer’s Workshop, we have wrapped up our Kevin Henkes Author Study.  As part of “fancying up” our writing, we took a close look at what we needed to add to the story we wanted to publish.  After that, we tried a little bit of peer editing: each student looked at their partner’s story and helped suggest what they could add to their story to make it better or more complete.

The week before February vacation, we celebrated the 100th day of school! We incorporated the number 100 into as many activities as we could.  What a fun (and challenging!) day!

We made 100 piece mosaics:

We grouped 10 sections of 10 dots to create 100 dot paintings:

We went on a hunt to find 100 words we could read and write:

We thought about what we would look like and what we would do when we are 100 years old and made a class book:

And we shared what we brought for our 100-piece lunch:

Jef Czekaj, a children’s book author, came to visit us! He engaged the students with an interactive read aloud of Cat Secrets, they helped him come up with traits to create a new fictional character, and they assisted in reading some parts of his story Yes, Yes, Yaul. We also learned about the steps in the process of publishing a book.

Thank you to families who have sent in shared classroom supplies throughout the school year! We are running low on tissues, dry erase markers and disinfecting wipes. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the weekend!
