Hello Families!
In Writer’s Workshop, we are wrapping up our Kevin Henkes
author study. We are still working on using his strategies in our own writing
and hope to publish our stories soon.
Last week, we voted for our favorite story. Julius,
the Baby of the World was the most popular! Next, we plan to write letters to Kevin Henkes
to tell him how much we enjoy his books.
In Science, we are continuing to observe our amaryllis
plant. It has four tall leaves but no flowers yet. We are also noticing that the bulbs we
planted in the courtyard last fall are beginning to sprout. We have been taking our science notebooks
outside to record our observations and are wondering what they are going to
look like when they bloom.
In Phonics, we are working on reading and writing words with
consonant blends. Blends can be found in words with two consonants together
such as slip, lamp, or frog. We are also continuing to practice our trick
words daily. Last week, we all tried to
read the whole rainbow of trick words in order to reach the pot of gold.
Our class is continuing to work on social skills with Mrs.
Boardman. We have been working on being
“in the group” during whole class learning activities. When you’re “in the
group” you are sitting calmly and safely, doing whole body listening (eyes on
the speaker, thinking about what they’re saying, hands in lap), one person is
talking at a time, you are following directions as they are being given, and
you’re staying on the same topic of conversation. Our class completed a drawing
activity where each person decided on one item to add to the picture. In order
to have a similar picture at the end of the activity, each person must have
been “in the group” the whole time.
Enjoy the weekend!
