Hello Families!
Each day during
Literacy, we read to self, listen to reading, work on writing, and do word
work. We recently added in the last part of our Daily Five: Read to Someone. During this time, students choose a partner
to read with, sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee (EEKK) and hold the book in the
middle so they both can see. It’s a great opportunity for each child to
practice reading fluently and to help their partner if they get stuck on a
word.
We have launched
Writer’s Workshop! After talking about
how the best stories come from the heart, we each created a heart map with
pictures and words about people and experiences that are important to us. We will keep our heart maps in our writing
folder so we’ll be able to refer to them when thinking of story ideas.
Each Writer's Workshop session begins with a mini lesson. Then, children think about what they'd like to write about, tell their partner the story, draw the picture, and write words to go along with their picture. At the end of each session there is an opportunity to share what they've written with the class.
Earlier this month, we visited with our
third grade buddies to watch a video about the plant life cycle of a pumpkin
patch. After the video, we decorated pumpkins together.
Enjoy the weekend!
