Hello Families!

In Math, we have been studying measurement. We had an interesting discussion about the types of things that are important to measure and why (to find how long, high, wide, or heavy an object is) and the tools that are used (a ruler, tape measure, or scale) depending on what you’re measuring. Then, we used unifix cubes, toothpicks, dominoes, and place value blocks to measure the length of our names.

After that, we went on a measurement hunt!  We used snap cubes and paper clips to measure many different items in our classroom, and tried to find objects that were the same length as our shoe, two of our hands, and as tall as our leg.

 Reading Counts
Many students in our class have been challenging themselves by taking Scholastic Reading Counts tests after they read a book. Students use the Reading Counts program on our computer to read and answer questions about a story they have read independently. If they receive passing scores (7 out of 10, 8 out of 10, 9 out of 10, or 10 out of 10 questions correct) on ten different books, I have promised to buy them a book of their choice from the Scholastic Book Order. Some students have already achieved this goal!

Homework
The last week of May will be the last week of Math homework. Students will still be responsible for completing 20 minutes (or more!) of reading each night and recording it on their reading log.

Classroom supplies
Thank you to families who have donated supplies! We are still running low on shared classroom supplies such as disinfecting wipes and extra snacks (goldfish, saltines, pretzels). Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the weekend!
