Hello Families!
In Writer’s Workshop, we have been studying authors as
mentors. We have been listening to stories by Kevin Henkes, looking closely at
how he writes and illustrates, discussing the topics he writes about, and practicing
using his strategies in our own small moment writing.
In Science, we are continuing our yearlong study of
different types of plants and their life cycles. We observed two amaryllis
bulbs, planted them in pots in our classroom, and drew predictions of what we
think they will look like when they bloom.
One of the plants has started to grow while the other has not. As scientists, we wonder why is this
happening? We are also wondering if our predictions of shape, size, and color of
the plant will be correct.
In Phonics, we are practicing how to read and write words with new
glued sounds: -ang, -ing, -ong, –ung,
-ank, -ink, -onk, and –unk. We went on a
word hunt in our classroom to find and sort into lists of words with glued
sounds and words without glued sounds.
We celebrated
the 100th day of school on Friday, February 12th by
sharing our special 100 piece snack or lunch and by making 100 piece mosaics in Math.
Enjoy the weekend!
Mrs. Carli
The mosaics look great!
