Hello Families!

In Math, we are learning about subtraction strategies.  We are also learning about how addition and subtraction are related. The strategies we are practicing are using a number line or counters to count back, thinking addition, and making a ten to help us subtract. Learning about fact families has helped us connect addition with subtraction.

Last week, our third grade buddies visited our classroom to listen to the story The Mitten by Jan Brett. After listening to the story, we worked on a mitten art project together.

In Writer’s Workshop, we are working on writing true stories that really happened to us.  During Writer’s Workshop time, we spend the whole time writing, whether it’s working on writing words, drawing a picture to match our story, adding to our heart map, adding to the pictures or words of a piece we’ve already started, or thinking of what to write next. At the end of each session, students are able to share what they worked on that day with the class.

Our class is continuing to work on social skills with Mrs. Boardman.  We shared some problems we have been having at school and categorized them into “bug” problems, “dog” problems, and “elephant” problems.  Then we used puppets to act the problems out.

Thank you to families who sent in shared classroom supplies at the beginning of the school year. We are running low on disinfecting wipes. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated!

Enjoy the weekend!

Hello Families!

We met with our third grade buddies before the Winter Break to listen to the story of The Gingerbread Baby and create our own gingerbread babies. After listening to the story, we compared how The Gingerbread Baby was the same as and different than other Gingerbread stories we read such as The Gingerbread Boy, The Gingerbread Man, and the Gingerbread Girl.

Since the beginning of the school year, our class has been working on using appropriate behavior at school.  Lisa Boardman, a special education teacher, has been visiting our classroom each week to help the children learn about and practice  “expected” and “unexpected” behavior. We have also been working on being good sports when participating in partner/group activities such as playing board games.
