Hello Families!

We finished our All About Books in Writer’s Workshop! To celebrate, we shared our books with our third grade buddies. They seemed to be impressed with how much we learned (and wrote!) about our animals while completing this project.

In Math, we are learning about measurement. We discussed what types of things people measure and what tools we can use to measure. Then, we practiced measuring objects around our classroom using nonstandard units such as unifix cubes, paper clips, toothpicks, tiles, and cotton balls. We are also learning about how to measure time and have practiced telling time to the hour and half hour.

In Social Studies, we are learning about United States symbols. We learned what each part of the American flag represents and then created our own.

We have had lots of special visitors during the past few weeks. Last week, we had a visitor come to our classroom from Drumlin Farm.  She led our class on a guided scavenger hunt through the courtyard and we learned interesting facts about the plants and trees that are living there.

Jef Czekaj, a children’s book author, came to visit us as well. He shared a few of his stories with us in an interactive presentation where the students helped him read (and even rap!) parts of his books.

Lastly, Mr. Mark came to visit us from the Maynard Public Library to play games and explain the summer reading program to our class.

Enjoy the weekend!

Mrs. Carli
