Hello Families and Happy New Year!

The Bright Links projection system in our classroom is up and running! It has been an especially helpful tool to utilize more of the interactive Go Math resources. We have also used it to access BrainpopJr.com, GoNoodle.com, and to watch educational videos that correlate with our weekly Scholastic News magazine.

Our Amaryllis plant is growing! We came back from the Winter Break on Monday surprised to find that it grew to be 16 inches tall while we were on vacation! After looking at it again closely and carefully, we recorded our observations, making sure to write down facts and not opinions.

Reading Logs & Classroom Supplies
Starting next week, there will be optional “challenge work” added to the weekly Reading Log.  On the reverse side, there will be an area to write a retell of one story your child has read during the week. It should include the most important events from the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Please contact me with any questions.

Thank you to families who sent in shared classroom supplies at the beginning of the school year! We are running low on dry erase markers and disinfecting wipes. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the weekend!

Hello Families!

In Writer’s Workshop, we have been studying authors as mentors. We have been listening to stories by Kevin Henkes, looking closely at how he writes and illustrates, and practicing using his strategies in our own small moment writing.

In Science, we are continuing our yearlong study of different types of plants and their life cycles. We observed an amaryllis bulb, planted it in a pot in our classroom, and drew a prediction of what we think it will look like when it blooms.

The week before Thanksgiving, all classrooms at Green Meadow had a door decorating contest. As a class, we brainstormed ideas of how we could design the outside of the door to our room and decided to each make a paw, pennant, or help to color the sign. We enjoyed showing our tiger pride!

In Math, we have transitioned back to addition. We are working on combining bigger numbers and trying out different strategies to make adding easier. We have learned how to count on from the bigger number and how to use doubles to add. Using manipulatives such as unifix cubes and counting chips have helped us practice.
