Hello Families!
In Writer’s Workshop, we are
being writers as well as teachers as we work on writing How-To Books. Who knew
the students in our class knew how to do – and explain the steps of – so many
different things! Some topics are how to make popcorn, how to read with a
buddy, how to cook waffles, how to plant a seed, how to paint, and how to play
with a cat. Right now, we are testing our steps by reading each of them to a
partner and having our partner act it out. This helps us see if we are missing
any important directions.
Our class celebrated the birthday of
Dr. Seuss last week by incorporating him into as many areas of our first grade
curriculum as we could. We practiced rhyming skills with card and dice games, tried
to recreate the Lorax’s mustache with pattern blocks, listened to several Dr.
Seuss read alouds, practiced reading fluently and with expression with a Green
Eggs and Ham play, and even tried to create our own Dr. Seuss-like character.
Conferences and
Classroom Supplies
Spring Conferences are coming up! 10-minute conferences will
be offered on Thursday, April 2nd. Please keep an eye out for an
email from Sign Up Genius within the next couple of days. When you receive the
email, you can follow the link to the website to sign up for a conference time.
If you do not receive the email, or if
you have changed your email address recently, please let me know as soon as
possible.
Thank you to families who have sent in
shared classroom supplies throughout the school year! We are running low on tissues,
dry erase markers and disinfecting wipes. Any contributions would be greatly
appreciated.
Enjoy the weekend!
Ms. Little
