Hello Families!

In Math, we have been learning about fractions. We have identified fractions of different shapes by dividing them into equal parts such as halves, fourths, or thirds. Last week, after reading a story called Give Me Half! We decided to share one half or one fourth of a cookie with a friend.

In Science, we have been studying the weather and learning about different types of clouds. After reading several nonfiction books about clouds, we made our own cumulus, cirrus, and stratus clouds out of cotton balls.

We filled up our class marble jar…
…and we are going to celebrate! We plan to watch a movie and have a special snack on Friday, April 11th.  Students may bring in their own parent-approved special snack from home to have during the movie.  Students may also bring in a G rated movie. We will vote on which movie to watch. Please contact me with any questions.

Classroom supplies
Thank you to families who have donated supplies! We are still running low on shared classroom supplies such as disinfecting wipes, tissues, and dry-erase markers. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the weekend!

Hello Families!

In Math, we have started our study of Geometry.  We have named, sorted, counted, built, and created new shapes with two-dimensional shapes using pattern blocks and tangram pieces. Next, we will learn how to identify fractions of different shapes by dividing them into equals shares such as halves, fourths, or quarters.

In Fundations, we have been learning new trick words and practicing reading and writing welded sounds (–ang, -ank, -ing, -ink, -ong, -onk, -ung, and  –unk).  You can support your child at home by practicing words with these sounds, trick words, and reading with them and talking about what you read together. If you have access to a computer, starfall.com, pbskids.org, and storylineonline.net are all great resources to help build reading and phonics skills.

Conferences/Report Cards
Conference reminders have been sent home today. Look for your child’s report card in their Thursday Backpack Folder next week.  Please contact me if you have questions or concerns about their report card or if you would like to change the date and/or time of your conference.

Hello Families!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed the winter break. We are getting back into the swing of things in our classroom. In Math, we are strengthening our skills in addition and learning about how to identify even and odd numbers by playing dice games and using Brainpop Jr. on the computer.

In Science, we are continuing our study of living and nonliving things and plant life cycles. This week we are focusing on our amaryllis because it grew quite a bit over the winter break! We observed our plant, and then recorded its measurement (10 inches tall!) and other properties we discovered by looking at it closely.
