Classroom News:

Phaydan: We are reading The Witches. We only have a couple chapters left to read. Ms. Little is reading the book to us. Right now in the book The Witches the little boy put mouse maker in the soup of the witches. I predict that the witches are all going to turn into mice.

Tatyiana: This week we are not having new spelling words. We are not doing spelling because it is a short week. It is a short week because we didn’t have school on Monday or Tuesday.

Daniel: This week we are not receiving an independent reading journal. We are not receiving one because of the hurricane. Another reason is we would only have 4 days to do it. Most of us are probably happy that we are not receiving it.

Nathan: Pumpkin Scattergories is a game we played. We had to describe what our pumpkin looked like but try not to have the same word as anyone else in our group. Then we shared our words with the other players. Next we did the same thing but with our opinions.

Emily: Last week we listened to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The story was about a naughty little girl named Goldilocks and she was going to buy cupcakes. Her mom told her to not go down to the woods and take the shortcut but she was naughty so she went down that path and then she saw a house. Then she just barged into the house and she didn’t know but that was the bears’ house. Then she saw some porridge and sipped the big bowl but it was too hot. Then she sipped the medium sized bowl and it was too cold, then she sipped the smallest bowl and it was just right so she drank it all up. Then she went into the living room and sat in a big chair but it was way too hard. She sat in the medium sized chair but it was too soft. Then she sat in the small chair and it was just right. After that she went upstairs and laid down in the big bed but it was too hard, then she sat in the medium sized bed but it was too soft, and then she sat in the small bed and it was just right. Then she fell asleep and the bears came home and she ran out of the house screaming.

Lily: We were drawing conclusions for the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. When I drew a conclusion about her I said that Goldilocks was not mature because she went into the house of the bears when she wasn’t supposed to. The bears did not like that.

Colin: Last week in Math we started to learn multiplication. We made lots of little posters. We picked stickers out, then put them in equal groups, and then cut them out. My problem was 2 x 4 = 8.

Molly: On Friday we got pumpkins. Then we used a string and measured it around the middle of the pumpkin. My pumpkin was 81 centimeters. Some people shared a pumpkin with their whole group. Some people had a partner.

Madison: Our class learned cursive r and s. I found it pretty hard. First we did s. Then we did r. For s we swing up, tuck in, then swing out. It’s like this s. Lowercase r looks like this r.

Jameson: In Social Studies we learned that Pilgrim children went to schools. They used a hornbook. They got wacked with a tree branch if they didn’t listen. If they talked the teacher put a little stick in their mouth.

Seanalee: Ms. Little read us The Biggest Pumpkin Ever. The story goes like this: Once there were two mice that fell in love with the same pumpkin. They were both taking care of it and neither of them knew until the end.

Jesse: We collected postcards from Washington and Minnesota. We also received them from Thailand and Indonesia. Our class received 5 postcards. We need 12 more states to complete the map.

Logan: There was a hurricane on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and we didn’t have school on Monday and Tuesday. My house lights flickered and then they went out! Then the transformer box blew up. Then the lights went back on at 5:00 in the morning.

Sophia: In Gym last week we did stations. In stations each of the stations have at least 5 or less people. One of the stations was hula hooping.

Katie: On Friday we were marching around the school in our costumes for Halloween. The parents of all the children were watching us march. It’s called the Monster March! If some kids didn’t want to be in the Monster March they could go to the Library and wait until the Monster March was over.

Ali: In class we have book groups. Each group is reading a different book. My group is reading A-Z Mysteries: The White Wolf. Instead of reading pages we read paragraphs. We read with Ms. Little.

Tyler: Last week in Library we were learning about the presidents and their pets. After that we went on the computer to see their pets. After we were on the computers we checked out some books.

Brenna: In Art we made masks. We looked up what our last names meant. We cut cardboards and glued on pieces. My last name meant Little Raven. We painted the masks.

David: Last week we had a math test all on addition. It was full of all the addition that we had learned. We did this so we could move on to multiplication. It was fun.

Seamus: In Music we talked about getting recorders. A few minutes later we sang a song called “Round and Round.” Ms. Lilley said we had to return the recorder form on Friday.

Elizabeth: In Literacy we learned how to do Roll and Spell for a spelling activity. You would roll the die and say if you rolled a four you would write your word in purple. I thought it was fun.

Ms. Little: We have started our multiplication unit in Math. As multiplication builds on addition, it would be helpful for your child to practice basic addition facts at home, either with flash cards, aloud with a family member, or by using one of the math websites listed on our classroom website. Enjoy the weekend!
